Holly’s Pick of the Month
Disclaimer: Up and coming Winemaker Bobby Moy is a friend, and my husband’s Fraternity brother; and while I have watched him over the past several years (mostly over social media), explore and push further through his craft, I had never tasted a wine he created. Over dinner (and 6 bottles), a mutual friend and dining partner pulls out of his bag the loveliest label I’ve seen, and exclaims that this is Bobby’s 2016 Los Hermanitos Pinot Noir from his label, Chiron. With excitement and curiosity, we anxiously hold up glasses for the pour.
On the nose, a balance of dark fruit and earth- or what I lovingly refer to as a Brokeback Pinot. On the palate, pure balance and elegance. The fruit and vanilla comes through, but not to be overdone by the balance of earth. The sip is pure velvet, and truly what a Pinot Noir should be. “Holy s@#t!”, I exclaim, “Bobby Moy is f@#king brilliant!”. Los Hermanitos was quickly deemed to be the best bottle of the night among an amazing line up that included a Cote Rote from Pierre Gaillard, and a classic champagne by Michel Gonet.
Produced in Napa using grapes from Santa Rita Hill’s famed Fiddlestix Vineyard, the region’s cool climate comes through in the juice. With only 75 cases available, it would be advised to seek this one out fast. Currently, it is available only online on Chiron Wine’s website.
Los Hermanitos Pinot Noir from Chiron Wines is officially the best thing I drank in September.
You did real good Bobby.
